Shoreline Permitting Guidelines

Alabama Power holds property rights around Lake Martin as required by the Federal Government. Before you begin construction, make changes or additions to any structures or the shoreline, the property owner needs to acquire a construction permit from the Alabama Power Shoreline Management Office. Construction, changes, or additions include building or maintenance construction and land changes on or near the shoreline of the lake, such as: piers, docks, boathouses, boat ramps, bank stabilization, seawalls, re-grading, or dredging. Alabama Power may also require approval from your neighborhood development for the work to be performed, ask your representative if approvals are required for your property.

Permits must be submitted to Docks Unlimited prior to construction. Written permits only – Docks Unlimited will not accept verbal commitments.

For more information about both residential and commercial permits visit the Alabama Power Shoreline Management website and select Lake Martin, or call (256) 825-0053.
