Built to Last: Our Dock Construction Standards

Hardware

All bolts and hardware are hot-dipped galvanized, and screws are epoxy-coated for treated wood. We only screw or bolt our docks — never nails or nail guns.

Pilings

Pilings are 8"–10" in diameter or 6 x 6 treated posts. Spaced no more than 8 feet on center. Posts are driven or set in concrete based on site conditions.

Collars

Treated 2 x 10s are thru-bolted to posts to support joists, except where tied directly to rim boards.

Rim Boards

The main skirt around the pier consists of 2 x 10s, attached to posts using ½" carriage bolts.

Joists

All joists are treated 2x8s, spaced 12 inches on center. Unsupported spans do not exceed 8 feet.

Decking

Standard 2 x 6 treated decking and alternate decking systems are fastened appropriately.

Cleats

Fold-down cleats are lagged directly to the main rim board with 6-inch lags.

Beauty Band

A pressure-treated 2 x 8 board is screwed to the rim boards to conceal the raw ends of the decking.

Roofing

Standard is 29-gauge metal roofing, screwed to 2 x 4 purlins spaced every 2 feet. Color options and alternate roofing types are available upon request.

Floating Deck Hardware

Corners are reinforced with hot-dipped brackets (inside and outside), through-bolted to the inner and middle boards.

Pole Brackets

Brackets are mounted to the dock with lag screws and connect to spud poles via a chain. PVC rollers and composite wear plates reduce noise and protect both the bracket and the pole.
